Bone Cyst

03/01/2010

Question:

I`m male, 33 and been physically active for most of my life and very healthy overall. Over the past 18 months, I have been having pain in my right hip. It was limiting what I could do physically, so I went for an X-ray and MRI. The MRI results are as follows:

“Small benign appearing cyst lesion measuring approx. 1.0 cm noted within the inferior and lateral margin of the femoral head nearthe articular surface. There is a T1 and T2 hypointense ring consistent with sclerosis. Appears to be a herniation pit. There is no marrow edema or any diffuse marrow signal abnormality. Cartilage appears normal. No joint effusion identified. All surrounding ligaments and muscles appear normal.”

The doctor bascially told me I`m fine. Nothing to worry about and nothing they can do for me. But the pain at times is intense and I do feel some weakness in the leg while climing hills, stairs and ladders (my job has lots of the last 2). Skating, inline and on ice, have become very painful, and even jogging lightly is no comfortable.

Should I get a second opionion? And is there anything you can see that could be done to manage pain better. I am currently not taking anything, and not a big fan of taking pills unless necessary. Thanks
