Dear Dr

I am a successful executive working in PSU company. I am having hypertension and on treatment. Since last 2 years, I have developed a habit of continuous anxiety, constant thoughts and worrying over unnecessary things. I have a slight boarderline high blood sugar I have been reassured that it is not that concern. Yet I have recently started going for all blood tests like kidney liver lipid suage 2D echo very frequently I wonder as to why I have this habit of going for tests so frequently I am conscious of my bad habit yet I can not resist going to the labs. What is this going on within me ? I shall be glad to receive your guidance

Answer:

You may have developed “health anxiety.”   If you have not yet discussed this with your primary care doctor, do that next. Also consider a referral to a psychiatrist to evaluate and treat your anxiety.

Effective management of your anxiety will make it easier for you to manage your hypertension and blood sugars.
