Aspirin and Breastfeeding

10/19/2010

Question:

Hi guy, I wonder why Aspirin cannot be used during breastfeeding. I know that it is excreted in breast milk but it stays in the body for a very short time (half-life 15-30 min).

Answer:

Occasional doses of aspirin for headaches or other aches and pains are safe during breast feeding. However, high doses taken on a chronic basis such as those used in rheumatoid arthritis are not safe during lactation.
