Is Pomegranate Good for My Toddler?

11/30/2010

Question:

i have a daughter of 1yr 4month old..i just want to know whether i can offer er pomegranate juice?

Answer:

Thanks for your question. Juice is typically not recommended to children under the age of two since they can obtain adequate nutrients (vitamins & minerals) from most foods they consume. Any juice is also a source of fructose (fruit sugar), which can cause loose stool in toddlers. I would hold off giving pomegranate juice to your daughter. In addition to the reasons above, it may only “prime the pump” for sweetened beverages in the future vs. water and milk.
