What to do About Blackheads?

06/30/2011

Question:

What can be done about blackheads on the face? Is there a way of getting rid of them and preventing their recurrence?

Thank you for your attention.

Answer:

Acne cysts with larger openings at the hair follicle are sometimes called blackheads. There are many treatments for acne, including topical and systemic forms of vitamin A (retinoids) that can help.

Most people have larger pores on the central face that can be viewed as blackheads, especially if the skin is inspected with a magnifying mirror. Best treatment in this case is to get rid of the magnifying mirror.
