Steroids in Anti-TB Drugs

12/02/2011

Question:

I want to know whether the following ATDs being administered for treatment of Spine TB contain any steroids. I would like to mention here that my mother is being treated for Tuberculosis of the spine (MRI report suggests Early Caries of D12 and L1 vertebrae). The medicines being taken are:

Streptomycin Intra muscular Injection 0.75 Combutol 1000 mg Isokin 300 Mg Moxif 400 mg Benadon 40g

Answer:

None of the medications taken by your mother contain steroids. Streptomycin and moxifloxacin (Moxif) are both antibiotics used to treat tuberculosis and other serious bacterial infections. Ethambutol (Combutol) and isoniazid (Isokin) are medications used to treat tuberculosis that work by harming the bacteria that cause tuberculosis and fighting the infection. Pyridoxine (Benadon) is vitamin B-6 and is used in tuberculosis patients on isoniazid to prevent seizures.
